Problem Statement

Due to the lack of painted/plastered walls, trash cans, constructed class desks, and filtered water students of this school are forced to learn in this ailing environment.

Experience in exploring this problem

There is a private primary school in my neighborhood that is not functional, unlike the other fully developed schools that have the privileges of a healthy cleaned environment, along with necessary commodities like well-furnished classrooms, trash cans to the bin, and water-filter for clean water.

I knew the school situation for a long time and always wanted to do something about it. There were rusted desks, thin walls and a filter was installed near the principal’s office but not functional for a long time, and no trash cans to bin the trash. The principal of this school had already asked for some donation whilst in the middle of the COVID crisis but in no vain as the economy has hit us all.

In the bleak mid-summer when the schools will be reopened the students will be forced to learn in these harsh conditions. I went to school and had a conversation with the teachers (only 2 were present at the time when I went there) present there. They were very kind to greet me and when I told them what this meeting was about, they let me take pictures and even thanked me for supporting a better cause.

I asked them for their ideas to lessen the already hardened, unbearable conditions they told me there’s so much they could do and no one’s willing to take a step for this as they had already asked around. We had a very long conversation about how we could generate funds, i.e., find a sponsor, etc. In the end, they were very pleased that someone had reached out to me even just for an effort, and that the thing that touched me the most. When I came back home, I felt extra motivated to make a change in resolving the situation.
